A.S. Face 0637: Michael
Michael was diagnosed in June 2012 with AS. Symptoms started 1 1/2 years before his diagnosis. The doctors kept telling us the pain was caused from “growing pains”. One day Michael complained about the stiffness in his neck and jaw, and a light bulb went off over my head. Michael’s mannerisms and pain resembled my nephew’s who was diagnosed with AS over 10 years ago and who has suffered from this disease for more than 20 years. I took Michael back to the doctor and asked them to do the blood work for AS. After seeing my nephew suffer for years without a diagnosis, I am so glad Michael was diagnosed early!
