Mi nombre es José Berrocal Espinosa y tengo AS.
Besos y abrazos

My name is José Berrocal Espinosa  and I have AS.
My pain started when I was about to turn 20. I could not sleep at night during several years. My doctor told me I had to visit the traumatologist. I had some x-rays and the doctor told me I had lumbago, but after 5 years my pain was really bad. I decided to go to Barcelona and I visited a rheumatologist there, he was the one who diagnosed me with AS. I was really down, At that time, there was no treatment for AS, but I continued to work. When I was 40, I could not continue any more, I talked to my boss, I used to work for a workshop where tires were repaired, there were other two workers too. I was in charge of it. I had been working there for 12 years, I thought the boss and I were good friends, but when I showed him the medical report, I got in shock because he stopped talking to me, he read I could not do heavy activities any more. When a heavy tire needed to be repaired, the boss said I had to do it. I finally stopped working there and just got 12,000 Euros and nowadays I just have 700 Euros left. During lots of moths I was deppressed. I sometimes feel really bad and down. I sometimes have thoughts that really make me feel bad. This is my story. I can say that just the ones who have AS know how we really feel because sometimes not even your own family understands us. They think we are just looking for things to complain, that is why we, AS family, know how we really feel.

Small story of my struggle with Ankylosing Spondylitis
When I was around 19 years, year 1980, one morning when I got up out of bed one note a pain in the buttocks, not give it too much importance. With the passage of time were increasing discomfort, so began the journey of physician visits and their respective treatments. On my first visit to the orthopedist (inappropriate medical input for this ailment) came home with an arsenal of anti-inflammatory and a great concern to ignore what was happening to me. No physician had the slightest idea of what lay ahead. The first diagnoses were heading to a sciatica. The pain became intolerable limitation despite medications for inflammation and muscle relaxants. X-rays and laboratory were the second choices. After a visit to a rheumatologist in Badajoz suspected what it was but needed conclusive proof, the human histocompatibility antigen HLA B27. The ailment diagnosed with more than six years of delay was Ankylosing Spondylitis. Today, fortunately, has made no later both his diagnosis, achieving this goal that patients develop fewer limitations (which is not my case) that prevents them from making a relatively normal life, controlling the feared outbreaks. Ankylosing Spondylitis is affecting more than 200,000 people in Spain. The pain and limitation of certain movements were slowly increasing. When I injected some soothing it showed a slight improvement, but once the therapeutic effect all the same situation again. He was working in construction, and to fulfill my daily mission I looked in need of some mornings Nolotil take one vial, always among the intervals Forte neuroma injections. The GP positive reaction to any prescribed, choose to refer me to specialist consultations, ie a zone rheumatologist. From there began pilgrimages for various queries. A doctor told me one thing and another I read another. At this point it is worth making special mention of my body first contact with corticosteroids. Given the poor response to the drugs mentioned, the specialist proposed the administrarme therapy Nuvacthendepot several injections. The preparation in question came in packs of three vials of 0.5 ml of product. The main component of the blisters is Tetracosáctidohexacetato belonging to corticosteroids. Another group of drugs I was given steroids was equally CelestoneCronodose injections. After passing corticosteroids nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs NSAIDs indomethacin in my case. It was time to start with the biologic Humira (Adalimumab). Remained injecting me Humira every 15 days. The improvement in joint symptoms had reached maximum. At last I could make a relatively normal life, within the obvious limitations resulting from stagnation.
I was with the biological pattern of administration until the problem started. According to the specialist, can give biological failure cases because the body will detect it as a foreign substance, the immune system then acts and loses its therapeutic power. I Humira was effective for a period of two years and a half. After that time, the pain began to manifest, were increasing in both intensity areas had to reroll strong legs to walk, lifting his arms above chest was torture. With the increase in the symptoms of spondylitis, and suspecting that my body could be producing antibodies to Humira, chose to prescribe me one biological, in this case Enbrel (Etanercept). It should be noted that when a person I could not take Methotrexate (my body sick), and given that the concomitant administration of Humira and Methotrexate greatly minimized biological failure forced me to this change in medication. Currently I still have the same mediation. Over the years I have been hunching the back and neck, I have ossified entire back without any movement. I’ve had to put two prosthetic hip, walk with crutches. The disease has stopped and now I have a better quality of life through biological drugs. I hope someday Ankylosing Spondylitis can come in remission and let me inject stop biological, and anyway I have is irreversible disability.
A hug
