A.S. Face 2187: Melinda Neitzel
Hello my name is Melinda Neitzel and I’m 33 years old and diagnosed with AS. I was dismissed by a rheumatologist at the University of Utah as not having the disease because I’m a female and overweight, his words. I do not have much that does any radiographic changes except major inflammation of my SI joints and the symptoms that follow suit. I also have a positive HLA-B27 so with all that being said I had a second opinion and this doctor said that I am in the “non radiographic” stage of the disease and placed me in Humira which has helped the nerves being pinched in my low back. I’m so grateful my current doctor listened and really did deep into my medical history for I suffer from a couple other auto immune disorders.
