Sandra Oliver, Mills River, NC. Diagnosed with AS in 2005,
through having constant headaches. I first went to a dentist (which showed no
dental issue). Then to an ophthalmologist where I was diagnosed with
iritis/uveitis and referred to my rheumatologist. I was an established patient
already, having osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia. (I wonder now if some of this
was not AS related.)
I am a 63 year old, white female, previously a high school
library media specialist. I had to retire in 2012 to take care of my health and
was unable to meet the demands of my position. AS has significantly changed my
life and lifestyle as I knew it. I have developed a second auto-immune disease,
Microscopic colitis, as a result of many, many years of NSAIDs. I previously
was on Remicade infusions along with methotrexate. This had to be stopped due
to several serious secondary infections. I now take Tylenol and occasionally
pain medication.
