A.S. Face 0819: Ryan
My name is Ryan. I’m almost 40 and I have AS. I was diagnosed by a very well respected Rheumatologist at Barnes hospital, in late 2010 and approved for Social Security Disability in January 2011. My original Doctor left the area shortly after and I found one closer to home. I’ve been on nearly every NSAID to either have no relief or to have it make me sick. I cannot do biologics due to other issues that make me prone to infections. The only thing that provides any relief from the pain are the narcotic pain killers. I’ve been through the chain: Vicodin, Oxycodone, Morphine and now on Fentanyl patches with Vicoprofen for breakthrough. I was also told earlier this year that I may also have Fibromyalgia and a confirmed diagnosis of type 2 Diabetes.
I’m one of the lucky ones though as I have an amazing support system from family and friends. Especially the love of my life. She is very understanding and helps me deal with the pain.
