A.S. Face 0796: Brian Swope
My name is Brian Swope and I am from Johnstown Pennsylvania and diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis in May of 2010! My problems all started back in the late 80′s with neck, arm, back and leg pain thinking that as a mechanic I was just “sore and achy”! Finally in 1996 after tons of therapy thru the years I had 2 lower back surgeries and in 2008, 2 neck surgeries. My one lower back surgery consisted of going in thru my stomach and inserting dials with fusion! My neck surgery was a “plate” fusion and then spurs removed from the back of my neck! (never any total relief) Finally in 2010 my doctor decided on an appointment with a rheumy and he knew immediately when I was examined what it was thru blood work, the dreaded old HLA-B27!!! I do and always have suffered with pain, stiffness and most of all fatigue, with pain and numbness, spasms, tremors in my arms and hands with weakness. I live for my injection of Depro Medrol which I receive every 4 to 6 weeks! I also suffer from neuropathy in my lower extremities! I would love to find a daily oral medication and maybe get a little more relief vs.: the 4 to 6 week injection! Open to any advice from anyone as I have one of the worse cases that my rheumy has seen and we are sure this probably started back in the late 80′s. Thanks, Brian
