A.S. Face 0773: Jubilee Caligan
My name is Jubilee Caligan and I live in Central Washington. I was officially diagnosed with A.S in 2012 although I knew something was severely wrong with my body long before I took charge of my health. My neck became a constant concern and my range of motion was compromised for many years. I was embarrassed that someone so young (26) was so locked up when I had been incredibly athletic as a high schooler and basketball was as important as air. I saw 70-year-old people with more fluid movement than I. Mustering as much mental energy as I could possibly gather I sought medical help. I underwent endless x-rays and a battery of tests all returning no accurate answers and with just a slice of hope left I bravely saw a new doctor who suggested testing for A.S.
I live with moderate horizontal neck limitation but still pursue my life passion of growing great fruit on a commercial level with my husband and 2 sons. I still operate heavy equipment, I just modify it. I believe my positive attitude has saved me from ever feeling or thinking I was handicap. My zeal for my orchard is my passion and keeps me physically fit and as fluid as I can be. I refuse to let A.S run my life. I can offer one last sentence to you about A.S, one last thought if you ever cry in despair or pain or ask yourself “why me?” … I can guarantee that you were “fearfully and wonderfully” made by a Creator who does not make mistakes. My A.S is not a punishment or a mistake it is just my lot in life and I will not allow it to define my life.
